I love to explore tragedy and comedy. So, if you like your jokes wrapped up in rug pulls on your heart strings, below you’ll find and introduction to me and what’s currently in my development slate.

Comedy

Read a sample scene. The opening sequence from comedy drama pilot Fairies.

Story: Three brothers are hurled back together in their hometown of Stoke on Trent to deal with the carnage of their alcoholic father’s cancer diagnosis. They must decide whether their brotherhood - and the family fancy dress and kissogram business - is worth saving.

Context: We meet the brothers as they meet each other for the first time in a long time.

“There’s a sweet sort of sadness to this one. The sense of pathos amidst the daftness gives this story an edge.”

~ BAFTA Rocliffe Jury’s Comments

Drama

An early scene from original drama Between the Riot and the Rainbow.

Story: Adam is accused of a sexual assault, but he has no memory of the events on the night of the accusation. This is a drama about shame and the destruction it can cause, internally and in the world.

Context: Adam meets Conor for the first time. It’s the outcome of their meeting that serves as a catalyst for the events that follow.

"brutal and funny in turns with a burning, plangent heart”

~ Alexi Kaye Campbell

I was recently selected from hundreds of applicants to be a writer on a development scheme with Sky Comedy and Birmingham Rep. The result was Tree Shall Not, Tree Shall Not Be Moved, a short comedy play about courage.

I recently wrote on Audible first-ever original music podcast. And it was podcast pick of the week in Sunday Times Culture and The Guardian. Series Cast includes: Ellie Goulding, Douglas Booth, Omari Douglas, Layton Williams, Philip Arditti, Julia Davis, Rory Kinnear, Paul Kaye and more.

This clever concept musical, featuring interrelated stories, is created by Freya Slipper with songs by Chris Read. The best of the five episodes are written by Slipper or Doug Crossley... there is something undeniably promising here that deserves to be staged live.
